Protect Your Eyes by Balancing Light, Sun and Diet

You are surrounded by light every day. Whether you are inside or out, it is important to consider the light that you are being exposed to.

LED lights emit mostly blue light.

Sources of LED lights include:

  • Light bulbs
  • Computer screens
  • Televisions
  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets

The more you are exposed to potentially damaging blue light each day, the more important it is to manage your exposure.

You can minimize your exposure by wearing blue light blocking lenses.

You should wear these lenses any time you are exposed to blue light.

Wearing a hat and sunglasses while outdoors are other great ways to minimize your exposure. The sun reflects off of the snow, so wear sunglasses when you are outside in the winter.

The foods you eat can also have a great impact on the health of your eyes.

In particular, Omega-3s support the health of your eyes greatly.

Some great foods for healthy eyes include:

  • Carrots
  • Corn
  • Yellow peppers
  • Dark green vegetables

Antioxidants can enhance your vision health simply by enhancing your ability to filter blue light.

Reduce your screen time whenever possible. Hold your devices further from your eyes. And be sure to take breaks often to give your eyes a rest. Design your computer workstation to minimize glare from the screen.

And always wear your blue light blocking lenses.
